About

TOPIC is an independent landscape studio based in Barcelona, working worldwide. We are landscape designers, artists and gardeners with an experimental spirit. We work across materials, disciplines and scales, but our subject is always the same: nature.

We believe a garden is a process, not a finished product. Everything starts beneath the surface, with living soil that breathes, feeds and holds life. Rooted in regenerative gardening, we design diverse, water-wise spaces that give back to the ground they grow on. But we also believe beauty matters. A landscape should move you, invite you in and make you want to stay.

We love building plant palettes: searching, testing and finding the right plants for each place, climate and story. And we don't stop at the drawing. We bring our designs to life, from the first sketch to the last plant in the ground.

We love to collaborate with landscape architects, brands, cultural institutions, restaurants, hotels, shops and private clients, and above all with anyone who wants more nature in their life.

If you're looking for a landscape with a strong sense of place, a little wildness and a lot of life, we'd love to hear from you.

The Founder

I'm Jeanette Ramirez, founder of TOPIC. My practice sits between landscape, art and gardening, with plants as a constant point of departure.

I am interested in the living systems that make our landscapes possible — soil, bacteria, fungi, roots, water and the countless relationships that exist beneath and beyond what we see.

I work with plants and materials as creative matter, exploring new approaches alongside techniques and knowledge passed down through generations. I am interested in what happens when we look more closely at nature — not as decoration, but as something alive, intelligent and deeply connected to us.

But beauty matters too. I want to make places that are alive with ideas as well as plants — landscapes that surprise, seduce and create a sense of wonder. I'm interested in bringing something unexpected to a place and finding new ways of seeing what we think we already know.

I believe in the power of education — and re-education — to change the way we see, value and care for nature. Through gardens, landscapes, research and making, I want to create spaces that invite people to slow down, pay attention and rediscover their relationship with the living world.

For me, gardening is both a practice and a way of learning: observing, testing, planting, caring and seeing what happens next.
